If you are looking for couples rehab in California, start with a treatment search and a license check. Then ask the program about its current policy for partners. We have not yet checked any California centers directly.

Find California programs

Search FindTreatment.gov by your location. Ask admissions whether the exact site can assess both partners. A program’s marketing page does not guarantee shared rooms or joint therapy.

Use our national program search guide and admissions checklist to compare answers.

Check a DHCS license

DHCS maintains directories of licensed and certified substance use programs. Check the facility’s legal name, street address, license status, and type of service.

DHCS licenses non-medical residential care for substance use. A residential license does not by itself mean a site provides hospital care or 24-hour nursing. Ask who provides medical services and where care takes place. See the DHCS licensing toolkit.

Medi-Cal and county access lines

If you have Medi-Cal, call your county. Ask which services and centers it covers. DHCS lists county substance use access lines.

Ask the county to check coverage for each partner. Who qualifies can depend on the household. Do not assume that both partners qualify or that covered care includes shared housing.

Ask if a center takes part in your county’s plan. Check if you need approval before care starts. Read our cost and insurance guide for questions to put to your plan.

Rooming and couples therapy

Ask each program whether partners can attend the same site, share a room, and receive joint counseling. These are separate questions. Get answers in writing and ask what happens if the clinical team recommends separate care.

Plan for aftercare

Ask about follow-up visits and housing before you leave. Read our guides to couples sober living and relationships in recovery. Confirm any housing offer directly with the home before paying.
